The PureWeave method

Understand the fabric. Keep the context.

A material check explains what a retailer declares about the product you are viewing. It does not replace a physical label, laboratory test or independent product assessment.

Start with the current product

The reader looks for product identity, selected colour or style, material wording and associated structured data. A declaration must belong to the current product. Conflicting or ambiguous variant information can leave a result unresolved.

Page layouts differ. When details are hidden or loaded later, opening the retailer’s material section and choosing Recheck can help. Missing details stay unknown.

Shell, lining and fill stay separate

“Shell: 100% cotton” describes the shell. It does not make the lining, trim or whole garment cotton. PureWeave preserves named sections and the source wording, including materials without declared percentages.

Component scores can agree or form a range. Neither is a weighted garment average: relative component masses usually are not disclosed. Alternative fabric options are also kept separate from parts that are actually present in one garment.

What the material score means

The material score is a composition preference signal based on the declared share of plastic-based fibres in one component. The formula is 100 minus that share, rounded, with a minimum of 1. It is not an overall product rating.

A complete, recognized declaration can produce a point score. Partial evidence may support a bounded range; ambiguous fibres, conflicts or unclear scope can leave the score unavailable. Small label-rounding differences can be normalized when the component total is between 99.5% and 100.5%.

The score does not measure chemical safety, toxicity, durability, quality, ethics, environmental impact or shedding. A natural fibre name is not proof of safety, and a synthetic fibre name is not proof of harm.

Your preferences are separate

Choose fibres to prefer, limit or avoid, then apply your rules to all declared components or only the main fabric. Each declared section is checked separately. Missing information cannot establish a preference match.

Current preview builds include local Preferences and preference flags at no charge. These tools are part of the planned Premium offering alongside Brand pages; no subscription is available yet. The product plan keeps composition and the material score in Free.

A declaration is not independent verification

Retailer and manufacturer statements remain attributed wording. A certification mention does not verify the specific product’s certification, and a brand policy does not establish a product-level fact. Absent evidence remains unknown.

PFAS or finish claims cannot be inferred from fibre composition, waterproofing words or silence. “No intentionally added PFAS” and “not detected” describe different claims, with different evidence requirements.

A sample would not represent a whole brand

Brand pages are planned and have not been released. Any future aggregate must describe the reviewed sample, not every product a brand makes. A main-fabric statistic cannot stand for linings, trim or the whole garment.

An aggregate must state its numerator and denominator, the eligible product count, market, component scope and observation dates. It must disclose exclusions and missing or conflicting evidence. Missing declarations cannot be counted as zero plastic, a preference match or proof of a brand-wide claim.

Fresh checks and corrections

Product reports are temporary. Selection changes and navigation invalidate previous results, and an expired report needs a new check. Retailer pages can change, so compare the sidebar with the current product’s own declaration.

If a result looks wrong, recheck after opening the material details. See Help for troubleshooting and the status of the support contact.

No commercial influence on the check

This release does not activate affiliate links, cashback or referral tracking. The material score and preference result do not depend on commissions or sponsorship. Learn what the extension reads and retains in the privacy notice.

Curated affiliate lists are a future idea, not a live feature. If introduced, links that could earn PureWeave a commission would be clearly labelled. Commercial relationships would remain separate from the material score, evidence selection and ordering.
